After the Age of Wonders

Temple of Orcus I

The party flies on dragon back to the location of the vampiric dragon’s lair. They scout around and find a back entrance. They use the back entrance. They find bones on the ground along the way. as they pass through the bones two piles of them arise in a stoneborn dracolich and a razortalon skeletal dragon. They party defeats them but not without taking heavy damage as they are all basically melee and the dracolich sent shards in a close burst 3 once per round when it was struck.

They proceed in and find the creation room elros say in the vision. 5 death priest of orcus are performing an unknown ritual, their is an alter, 3 piles of bones, 2 magic circles conecting to the shadowfell (not actual portals, just conduits). 2 Razortalon skeletal dragons and 2 bonespitter skeletal dragons. They down on of the razortalons quickly, but find the other backs away while the bonespitters rain death with bone spike volleys, which pin (immobilize the person hit). To complicate matters some unknown force starts dominating random party members, causing them to attack the party or just stand there, not advancing.

They determine that the alter is actually the cause of this. Boomstick uses new found powers to sacrifice curse damage to teleport the target closer to the party, after a couple rounds of this, it gets to the melee, and they dispatch it and the other razortalon. with the alter and the last bonepitter left, (the deathpriest are not doing anything other then the ritual) they move in for the alter and smash it. Then they finally overwhelm the bonespitter who is kiting them around. The battle ends, the death priest did not complete the ritual, and are dispatched. They get loots, and then search down a stair case.

They find the cell that elros had a vision of, magically protected to prevent a vampire from leaving, but no brother. when the come back up the find elros’s brother on a nightmare, a skeletal figure (not the same as on the red) on a vampiric dragon. This enemies run before a battle can even be engaged out the front door. The party pursues and finds 6 zombie dragons blocking the way.

The only interesting mechanic of this fight is the 2 of them wing buffet to knock the party down and the other 4 run up and eat the prone party members until they get up. This causes massive amounts of damage by the end of the fight.

At which time the party finds themselves mostly out of healing surges and not at max HP.

Fortunately they have levels so the red balls return to full, they gain 1 healing surge and the ability to use the new 15th level daily.

Their dragon partners show up and pick them up and the fly out in search of the vampiric dragon and elros’s brother. It is dusk. They are exhausted….

What we learn from Dreams

Note: A number of sessions have passed, but Elros was sleeping, so no record has been found at this point.

The party has saved Fallcrest, having defeated the invasion force and specifically driven off the undead red dragon (child of Kelek) and his githyanki rider. — During the celebration, they ask about Elros and find where he is resting. They find Elros awake talking to Mira (the Elven Bard). Elros says weakly, “What does this mean?” With that he passes out. Mira motions the party to follow her. She takes them to a private room in the Elven embassy and says, “He has been waking up on and off for the last couple days, during the battle. He has been delirious and talking in broken sentences that don’t make any sense. He has been speaking as if having a vision, or as one who is insane, but we will assume that not to be the case as some of the things he is saying, tie to reality. Everything has been out of order in my eyes; it is almost as if he is having an out-of-body experience and seeing the world through someone else’s eyes.” She relates the various vision segments and Elros joins them shortly. Together, with Mira’s aid, they use their knowledge of the arcane, religion, and history, with the skills of insight, streetwise, and diplomacy to determine the order of events of the vision and to determine that Elros is seeing through his brother’s eyes.

The Completed Vision

  • He looking at a vast fortress, where shambling humanoid shapes and winged creatures abound. It is nighttime and the moon is full. A howling is heard in the background. A small movement, directly below, just barely in sight. A hand reaches out fast as lightning and grabs something. He raises something to his mouth while still watching the fortress.
  • He is floating through the air approaching a fortress in the dark of night. He spends a great deal of time, walking, creeping, and searching many rooms and hallways. He hides as shapes walk by.
  • A great skeletal and flesh dragon lies on a vast pile of treasure. Priceless objects adorn the room. Skeletons move about the room cleaning everything. Floating in the middle of the room in front of the dragon is a glowing orb. Shimmering energy surrounds it. (This has been determined to be the Orb of Solos.)
  • Priceless objects adorn a room with vast piles of treasure and a glowing orb floating in the middle of it. Skeletons move about the room cleaning everything. He spends time examining the magical field around the orb, ignoring the other treasures. Finally he attempts to take it and is blown back against the wall. An alarm of some kind is going off. The walls instantly begin to glow. Looking around frantically he moves to an area of the wall. Does something with his hands and is moving through a dark space. Everything is grey, and looks cave-like.
  • He is in a library of sorts looking through books in which arcane images abound; there are various maps and other unrecognizable words.
  • He walks to a warehouse by the docks in the dark of night. He meets a couple of thugs.
  • He is lying in a wood crate, looking up when dirt is shoveled onto him. He is quickly consumed by darkness.
  • He is sneaking through alleyways avoiding people. All of the buildings are made of stone. They are adorned with grandeur and splendor. A pair of dragons, a Blue and a Gold, fly overhead. He dashes out of an alley into another. He tries to blend into a group of travelers leaving the city. Dragonkin and Dwarves guard the entrance but pay little mind to those leaving. (This is believed to be the City of Drylosis).
  • He is flying over a forest, approaching a mountain range.
  • He is talking in a dark place to several men in dark cowl robes. They have symbols of Orcus on their chests. He is describing something.
  • He is talking to a red dragon in a cave for a long time.
  • A large room with a raised ring on the outside has several humanoids in dark cowl robes. They seem to be performing a ritual of some kind. In the center of the room is a dragon.
  • A large room with a raised ring on the outside has several humanoids in dark cowl robes. They seem to be performing a ritual of some kind. In the center of the room are bones.
  • A large room with a raised ring on the outside has several humanoids in dark cowl robes. They seem to be performing a ritual of some kind. In the center of the room is a man. (This is believed to be the Dark Gift Of The Undying ritual).
  • He is talking to a very pale dragon; the dragon seems amused.
  • He is in a sealed room with walls of natural stone, with sun light streaming in all around him. He feels exhausted.
  • He is in a sealed room and it is dark. He is combing every inch of the room, floors, walls, and ceiling looking for something when his exhaustion overcomes him and he collapses.

So just where is his brother?

The party beings to piece together the visions and are curious as to where Elros’s brother is. Looking at the vision they determine that the initial fortress is the Citadel of Orcus which contains the Orb of the Eladrin. It is the object that Elros’s brother is after, and it would seem he has failed to acquire it. There is some wonder amongst the party as to if this is the Orb that Kelek is imprisoned in, but no one is sure. They see that the last major landmark would be the “city made of stone, adorned with grandeur and splendor with a pair of dragons, a Blue and Gold, flying overhead.”

This results in several party members relating the knowledge they have about dragons.

Lore Chromatic Dragons & Metalic Dragons

After all this, Boomstick remembers that a group of dragons banded together during the war against Kelek, but does not know more. This revelation by Boomstick sets Shamash to have a vision much like Erlos has had: “You see from the eyes of someone flying aback an enormous gold dragon, flying over what you recognize as the capital city Drylosis of Arkhosia. You see your legs and gauntlets are of armor familiar to you (the artifact from Eastman’s session). You wield a great spear. You pass over the city and see a large flight of red dragons with rider closing in on you. The riders look like the rider you defeated defending Fallcrest. You make several gestures with your off hand and you see groups of variously colored dragons with riders fly in various directions towards these groups. Your dragon lets out a great challenging roar and you see Kelek behind this flight.” The party starts trying to find information about this city of Drylosis and nation of Arkhosia in Fallcrest. After a day of searching and asking questions, Vigo finds a merchant that tells him, “I believe I have heard mention of the continent of Arkhosia. It is rumored to be fabulously wealthy but well protected. Supposedly one merchant fleet from the southern port of Orleans has a trade route with them.”

The Party determines they need to go to Orleans many days to the south. Elros has suggested getting on a barge to go down the river like last time or using phantom steeds.

Emergency Council
Note: Done via email

Mira leaves you at the inn and tells you to that she will be back when she gathers the town council. As she leaves she stops for a moment and talks to one of the serving wenches. A few moments later the serving elf appears at your table with glasses of wine for you all (and not the cheap stuff they tried to pass on you the first time.)

As you all discuss the events of the day, Valandel you notice that the few remaining dragonborn cart drivers come into the inn and gather quietly around a table. They seem to be very subdued and rather shocked as the events of the day finally sink in. Only <name> the Warder seems to be dealing well with the situation, and he seems to be trying to blunt the blow for the rest of the carters.

Time passes quickly and the Mira returns and approaches your table. She asks you to follow her, and stopping only to also gather up <name> she leads you back to the council hall that some of you were in earlier this morning.

Mira leads you to the center of a semi-circle of nine chairs then walks to the chair farthest to the right and takes a seat. As you look around you notice that only five of the chairs are occupied. The middle age elf in the center chair rises and seems to be preparing begins to speak when he is interrupted by a fat elf sitting two seats to his left.

“Mira-San why have you dragged us to emergency session? While most of you may be enjoying this Fair day, some of us have import work we should be doing!”

With a slightly put upon look on his face, the elf who rose originally turns to address the fat elf who spoke “Daimyo Iormel, never once have we know Mira-gushishuo to take such action, as a fellow council member we should give her the benefit of at least hearing her reasons.” He continues addressing Mira, “Mira-San as you have called this emergency session, please present what you wish to discuss.” With that the elf in the center chair sits.

Mira rises and addresses the other four members of the Council. “Thank you for your time Kakka Wiston (The middle age elf in the center seat), Shengweaver Garalis (The old elf you know from the house of healing that sits to the right of the center seat), Daimyo Iormel (The fat elf two seats to the left of the center) and Sensei Soranna (A hard looking elf female who sits to the farthest seat to the left.) Earlier today Kakka Wiston sent this group out to investigate reports from one of Sensei’s patrols that discovered hobgoblins and Ogres where none should be. The information they uncovered I felt needed to be presented to this council immediately.”

She turns to your group and says, “Please present exactly what happened to your group to this council. Please tell us what you experienced and found today.”

The Great Stone Bridge

The party comes to a huge gorge spanned by a great stone bridge. A couple of tiefling are spotted on the far side of the bridge. The party decides that since it does not want to get caught on the bridge during a fight (a crack was noticed in the bridge), the party charges! The tieflings are quickly dispatched, but not before a signal is sent. A horn blows in the distance, while Valendil scales the wall of a ruined tower near the bridge. Upon reaching the top of the tower, Valendil discovers a blue dragon hiding in the tower! As the dragon rises out of the tower, and raiding party of hobgoblins and worgs ride out of the forest. The party fights, and fights, and fights some more. Samash takes grievous wounds and is almost felled. Valendil continously harries the dragon from a distance. Boomstick dispatches many hobgoblin minions with his dark arts. When the dragon sees an opening, he lands on the bridge to wreak havoc on the party. The monk finds a small opening and touches the dragon to wrack pain upon it. Vigo engages all of the worg to give Samash, near death, a moment to catch his breath. Resources depleted, the party finally slays all of the worgs and riders. At this, the blue dragon is near death and flies away…or tries to. Running forward, Valendil raises his bow, adjusts for the extreme range, and lets loose a single arrow. The arrow penetrates the dragon’s thick scales and the dragon falls, dead. After a moment to rest, the caravan comes forward, shocked at what they see. Shocked not wat the ambush, but that the party succeeded in killing the ambush party.

It is at this point, that the Eladrin burst from their disguise to reveal themselves at a group of Oni.
